A Fan’s Non-Expert Take on the Bears Upset Win Over 49ers
Sep 14, 2014; Santa Clara, CA, USA; Chicago Bears cornerback Tim Jennings (26) and strong safety Danny McCray (29) and strong safety Brock Vereen (45) and strong safety Ryan Mundy (21) celebrate after causing a turnover against the San Francisco 49ers during the fourth quarter at Levi
You know the way you feel after you get the rest you need? That overall sense of well-being and relief? That’s how I feel today. Winning works wonders.
Your team winning when most experts and colleagues don’t believe they have a chance, even better.
I watched football all day Sunday. I don’t usually do that. I usually just watch our Bears and check on our rivals. Since we were scheduled for SNF, and because we needed a little help from the Carolina, New England, and the NY Jets to stay competitive in the division, I wanted to check out those games too. Both Detroit and Minnestoa lost, which is good because they both won in week 1.
Call it “football foreplay” for the climax that took place in the new 49ers Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
If the Jets only could have held on to their huge early lead over Green Bay, it would have been heaven.
It’s even a little comforting to see that Buffalo won against a tough opponent, Miami. It shows that early panic attacks, (myself included) over getting beat by one of the NFL’s perennial losing teams in our home opener, may have to be redefined just a tad.
I live in Ohio now and I even enjoyed watching Cleveland upset New Orleans.
A lot of parity in the league this year, that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

I had planned to have a 49ers fan, Jesse Detlor, over for the game ever since the schedule came out. After the Bears lost to Buffalo while I had a guest over that was a Bills fan, I decided to reimpose the rule of no opposing team’s fans in my home to watch the game.
Jesse told me that was B.S. and he was coming anyway. My wife, Beth, bought the wings and we proceeded with caution.
When word gets out about some killer wings that you make, it’s hard to tell if they are coming for you, or for the wings. Or my more paranoid thinking of them trying to jinx my team. You see, they know I have abandoned my principles, because Bears fans don’t grow on trees in Ohio. If you want company, you have to be a little open-minded.
So Jesse and his wife Amanda came over for the game and they were great company. Did I mention that Jesse helped me move? That’s the Webster’s definition of friend if you ask me. He will hate that I put this in here.
When I first moved here, he had me over for the Orange Bowl. Even though Ohio State lost, it was a close one and I was busy stuffing my face with all of these wonderful party dishes that Amanda had prepared. There was a multi-layered dip and chips, some awesome potato skins, a kind of bread thingy with something inside, but what stood out the most was this strawberry cake with a light cream cheese frosting. It was moist and good and I couldn’t believe that she had made everything from scratch. Who has time to do that? She did.
It was enough to get me to start watching College football. I didn’t have a college team and I chose, well, was strongly suggested to go with the Buckeyes. I guess that’s OK because I live in Ohio.
Anyway, back to the Bears…………..
Welcome back Mr. Fourth Quarter. Jay, you are the man. Welcome back defense. Thank you for leaving it all out there on the field. This win was big.
I do hope people will stop busting on Chris Conte too. I think you can see how good he can be when he gets some help up front.
I’m not gonna start talking playoffs, but I sure do feel a lot better moving forward than I did last week. Tillman will be missed, but I think that Kyle Fuller is delivering as promised and will ultimately be his replacement.
Seeing Charles “Peanut” Tillman turn his back to the cameras because he was crying was a very emotional thing. He has served our team like no other and as of this writing, he will miss the rest of the season with a torn triceps.
If our defense can continue to play like they have something to prove, and our offense can get healthy, this season holds a lot of promise.
What a difference a week can make in the NFL.
Sometimes it’s all just your perspective.
No, it’s always your perspective, and not just with football.
