#9: “Grand Opening Flop”

9/29/03: Packers 38 – Bears 23

The Bears were a very hospitable host during the grand re-opening of the “new” Soldier Field.  The Packers spoiled the party as Ahman Green torched the Bears for  176 rushing yards and 2 TDs.  Brett Favre added 179 yards passing and 3 TD’s while Kordell Stewart could only muster 201 yards through the air but added a rushing touchdown.  Anthony Thomas had a 67 yard rushing touchdown when the game was essentially out of reach.

#8: The Coldest Game in Soldier Field History

12/22/08: Bears 20 – Packers 17

One of the MNF games that I can say I attended and I have the frostbite to prove it.  The air temperature was -2 at kickoff and the wind chill was -13.  The Bears kept Aaron Rodgers in check for most of the night.  Alex Brown saved the game by blocking a 38 yrd field goal at the end of regulation setting up Kyle Orton’s game winning drive and Robbie Gould’s 38 yrd game winner.  Here’s a strange highlight clip from the game:

The win gave the Bears nine wins on the season and kept their faint playoff hopes alive.  The following week, all the time breakers broke the Bears’ way.  Just one problem; they lost to the Houston Texans to miss the postseason. Again.
