Fantasy Football: Week 6 Recap

Victor Cruz and Knowshon Moreno go down, Tom Brady again rises to the occasion, and the Bears have their best (fantasy) game of the season. In the world of fantasy football no team has had a bigger impact than the Chicago Bears, who, as of Sunday, are the only team with a top-12 player (total points) at each offensive position (Jay Cutler-3, Matt Forte- 2, Alshon Jeffery- 11, Martellus Bennett- 4). Though they have yet to start dominating the NFL, make no mistake, the Bears are dominating fantasy football.

  • Cutler is third in the league in total fantasy points.
  • Forte has been the best top pick by far (ADP: 4) with over 15.5 points per game.
  • Jeffery is starting to pick up where he left off last season, finishing fifth in total fantasy points among wide receivers over the past two weeks.
  • Despite his slump Brandon Marshall is still in the top 20 in total points among wide receivers (16th).
  • Martellus Bennett remains a top-five tight end, though he’s scored just 6.9 points in the past two weeks.

Other than the Bears who else came to play in Week Six?

Quarterbacks:

The top five quarterbacks from Week Six were as follows: Cam Newton (36.90 points), Joe Flacco (35.30), Tom Brady (34.35), Colin Kaepernick (32.85), and Phillip Rivers (28.95). Until this week no quarterback in this group had finished in the weekly top five aside from Cam Newton (Week Two) and Phillip Rivers. As valuable as guys like Jay Cutler and Andrew Luck have been, quarterback remains too deep a position this season to be considered most valuable in fantasy football. If you have two quarterbacks on your team consider moving one for a position of need.

Running Backs:

In contrast to quarterbacks, the Week Six running back scoring leaders included Matt Forte (27.70), Arian Foster (26.10), and DeMarco Murray (20.60), the top three running backs in fantasy football in terms of total points. All should be considered virtually untradable at this point in the season and with the injuries and the overall lack of depth at the running back position they are surely among the three most valuable players in fantasy football.

Wide Receivers:

Aside from Demaryius Thomas once again proving his merit as a first round pick, it was another peculiar week atop the weekly wide receiver leader board as the position remains the most inconsistent in fantasy football. Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown are the only wide receivers without a game of below 8.0 fantasy points. DeMarco Murray’s lowest score so far this season is 19.1.

Tight Ends:

After finishing atop the weekly tight end leader board for the second time this season, Julius Thomas has certainly put his name in the most valuable fantasy football player discussion. Owned in 64% of the top 500 team in Yahoo! Sports leagues and averaging nearly five more points per game than the next best tight end, Thomas remains in a commanding lead over his position and has been well-worth the early pick you spent on him.
