Welcome to Week 8’s edition of Inside the Numbers, where we look ahead to the matchup of the Chicago Bears vs Patriots. If it feels like the last time Chicago Bears have beaten the New England Patriots was in Super Bowl XX, you’re not too far off. As the Bears prepare for the Patriots, I did a little research to dig Inside the Numbers and look at some of the key stats and how these teams match up.

The Bears and Patriots have matched up a dozen times in their history and the Patriots hold an 8-4 lead in the series. Three of the Bears’ four wins came in the 80’s including that glorious 46-10 win in Super Bowl XX. Since, the Bears have only beaten the Patriots once, a 2000 matchup in which Shane Matthews outdueled Drew Bledsoe in a showdown between teams that both ended up 5-11. That was Bill Belichick’s first season with the Patriots. Things took a turn for the better for them since. Tom Brady took over for an injured Drew Bledsoe and the rest, as they say, is history.
