Chicago Bears Dismantled by New England Patriots: A Mostly Unbiased View

The Packers lost.  They are not an unstoppable juggernaut.  If the Bears can come out of the bye and give them another loss, Chicago will be within one game of them and no one will own the tiebreaker.  I know the Detroit Lions currently sit atop the division at 6-2, but they are the Lions and still have to play Chicago twice and Green Bay once.  The Lions have a lot of demons to exorcise, and I’ve been following football for too long to be convinced without a doubt that this is the year they turn it around.  Starting hot before fizzling out down the stretch has been this Lions team’s M.O. in recent years, so let’s just see how the season plays out.

The Bears could get a really nice draft pick out of this debacle.  This is the ultimate cop out bright spot, but that doesn’t make it wrong.  Sometimes a losing season is just what a team needs to get back on track.  The Chicago Bears are a talented team, but they’re ways off from being the most talented team in the NFL.  Imagine what a top 10 pick could do for this roster.  They could get a difference maker that the defense desperately needs, or a franchise left tackle, or a playmaker at wide receiver to really take the offense to another level and be an eventual replacement for Brandon Marshall.  The NFL Draft is like Christmas, and I look forward to it every year.

There you have it.  Despite being trounced by the New England Patriots, the Chicago Bears are still right in the thick of things.  They might not be for long if Trestman and the rest of the coaching staff can’t right the ship, but it’s still too early to say they can’t turn this around.  Just look for improvement each week, and we’ll see how the season ends up.  Bear Down, but keep it balanced…
