The Final Bears Mid-Season Reflection: Who’s to Blame?

4 of 4

Defensive Players: This is an easy one. I grew up playing defense and have always taken pride in the Bears being known for their defense and having leaders on defense. THIS DEFENSE is just bad. There is not one player on this defense that is leading this team or keeping offensive coordinators up at night. Willie Young has been a pleasant surprise on the line and the duo of Stephen Paea and Jay Ratliff has shown flashes. However, this group has been extremely inconsistent rushing the passer, led by the overpaid Lamarr Houston and Jared Allen. Even though this game has evolved a lot through the years, it is still won at the line.

The linebacker group has been a mess and players are not filling their holes. DJ Williams and Shea McClellin are constantly out of position and I’m convinced that they are not utilized as much in blitz packages because they are ineffective. This so called “defense” is dead last in forced punts and overall, this defense has been awful. Between the Miami and New England game, the Bears went a 5 quarter span without forcing a punt!!! That’s inexcusable, garbage and embarrassing to themselves and this city.

To the players: Instead of pointing fingers, questioning leadership and dancing after sacks, get some passion, get upset and do something about the position you are in.

Who do you think should shoulder the biggest amount of blame? Let me know your thoughts and vote below! Thanks for letting me vent.
