I’m getting a head start on writing my reaction piece, which is greatly appreciated on a Sunday night. The Chicago Bears are going to lose to the Green Bay Packers. With about 10 minutes left in the second quarter and trailing 28-0, the outcome is a foregone conclusion. Only the final score and the amount of embarrassment are in question.

Aaron Rodgers and Jordy Nelson all but assured a Bears loss with two long touchdowns on broken coverage. The defense is completely lost and clueless. The offense isn’t much better. Jay Cutler and the lifeless Bears offense sleepwalked through the first quarter while Aaron Rodgers and the Packers were nearly perfect. It’s as if the Bears were all sleeping through meetings the last couple of weeks, not just Lance Briggs.
Coming off their bye and laying this big of an egg in the first half performance is a fire-able offense. No one at Halas Hall should be safe. Not Joe DeCamillis. Not Mel Tucker. Certainly not Marc Trestman. Not even GM Phil Emery. I wouldn’t mind leaving the bunch of them up in Green Bay. I’m not sure that crew could find their way back to Lake Forest with a compass and bus fare.
I am a longtime Bears fans, since I was a kid in the mid-80’s. I lived through the end of the Ditka era, the Wannstedt era, the Jauron era. The 90’s and early 2000’s are what I call the dark ages of Chicago Bears football. I can’t recall ever disliking a Chicago Bears team as much as I dislike this team. They infuriate me! How could a team this talented suck this badly??? Oh wait, Eddie Lacy just scored on a 60 yard screen pass? Is this a nightmare? I thought Halloween was over!?!?!
The Bears should not bother to come out for the second half of this game. Save themselves the pure embarrassment. Calling it quits while trailing 35-0 would actually save some measure of civic pride. This game is over. This season is over. We’ll be turning our attention to the draft, looking for coaching candidates, GM’s. We’ll be suffering through the last seven games of this death march.
Good night Chicago Bears fans!
