Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Chicago Bears Final Score 13-21

The Chicago Bears defense has been under fire all season long, but they showed up big for the second week in a row with a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Yes, the Buccaneers are 2-8 and not very good on offense, but considering the struggles this season every win is a big deal. The front four was a problem for Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown all afternoon; the most disruptive was defensive tackle Stephen Paea. The often forgotten defensive player was relentless on Sunday and made his presence felt.

Paea recorded two sacks, one forced fumble and helped pressure McCown into an ill-advised throw resulting in an interception by safety Chris Conte. The constant presser and physical play by the Bears led to another inception by Ryan Mundy and caused a rare fumble by wide receiver Vincent Jackson. It looked like the Bears defense of old. Ironically, it came against their former head coach Lovie Smith who was well known for preaching the importance of forcing turnovers in his time in Chicago. With Lance Briggs leaving the game due to injury and Jared Allen having a quiet afternoon, Paea was the leader on defense.

Paea’s on the field leadership and big time plays will have to continue in week 13 when the Bears go on the road to face the Detroit Lions. The Lions offense is much more potent than the Buccaneers so it will be a challenge. Hopefully, Paea and the defense will have a repeat performance because the offense is struggling and at this point in the season every game is crucial.
