A Fan’s Take on Chicago Bears TNF Loss to Cowboys

That was the most exciting Chicago Bears loss in my life.

Final score Cowboys 41, Bears 28

Let’s face it folks, this season has sucked. Our Beloved Chicago Bears aren’t going to the playoffs, and some coaching staff are going to have to look for new jobs in January.

I do believe we have our quarterback.

Our team believes he is our quarterback too.

Yes, he throws picks. Yes, he is a grumpy pants. It’s true he seems apathetic on the sidelines when the team is headed towards another loss.

Not tonight.

Not since Brian Urlacher rallied our defense to a comeback win over Arizona on MNF in 2006, have I seen a player that somehow convinced, through his actions, that the game wasn’t over.

That they needed to give it everything they had. That they might lose, but they weren’t going to buckle. That they weren’t going to give up. That they would fight until the clock ran out.

Jay Cutler lead, and they followed.

It was beautiful.

He actually had me believing. I think we could have actually done it, had it not been for a third , though unsuccessful, onside kick, and subsequent short Cowboy field.

Never mind Demarco Murray and his great running game. Never mind Tony Romo playing a solid, mistake free game.

It almost ended up meaning squat for the Cowboys.

I enjoyed seeing their players fearful that the game could slip away.

I know a lot of fans do not like Jay Cutler. I get it. They say he is not a winner. I understand. They say he is a waste of a hell of a lot of money. I partly agree with that one. He probably should have been tagged, and proved himself worthy first.

Tonight, on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football, I witnessed a true competitor. A leader of a different sort. The kind that you watch and absorb their gumption.

The unexpected return of Mr. Fourth Quarter.

Do you remember that guy?

On another note, I hope Brandon Marshall is OK, he ended up actually having to go to the hospital. Ribs, I think.

I watched the game with a couple Cowboy fans. Norm Sewell and Beal Pumphrey. Beal is a real live Texan, cowboy hat and all. I made my famous wings and I enjoyed the company.

The game started with both defenses forcing punts, and no scores in the first quarter and by the half it was 14-7 Cowboys. Soon after, Tony Romo made a careless toss towards the end zone, and some dude named Cole Beasley caught it and scored.

21-7 Cowboys.

We fail to score on the next drive.

Romo to TE Gavin Escobar, touchdown

28-7 Cowboys.

After my wife and three-year-old went to bed, the game started to look out of reach.

Beal left too.

Just me and Norm, him hoping the Cowboys stay in the playoff hunt, Me just rooting for my team. He actually started Jay Cutler as his fantasy QB this week. I don’t know what’s wrong with you people. I’ll let it be, though. Too many of our readers play fantasy footbal for me to get any mileage griping about how crazy it seems to me. To each their own.

Oh that’s nice, Joseph Randle, RB for the Boys, gets to run one in for another score.

35-7 Cowboys.

Wait for it.

Wait for it.

C’mon 4th quarter.

Cutler to Alshon Jeffrey, touchdown!

35-13 Cowboys. The extra point was blocked.

The Chicago Bears tried an onside kick, fail.

Our D made somewhat of a stop and the Cowboys kick a field goal.

38-13 Cowboys.

Something’s has changed with our offense by now. I noticed a sense of urgency. It surprised me because I’ve seen the Bears look like they were giving up this season when they were down less than this.

They went for it on 4th and 7, first down!

I started to perk up. What’s going on here? I was already thinking about the sad story I had to write for you guys.

Then we score, then 2 point conversion!

38-21, Can we do it?

I am so scorned this season that this attempt at a comeback caught me off guard.

We onside kick again, but this time Dante Rosario, our TE, recovers it!

Cutty runs it in for a score!

38-28

Wow.

Well they ended up kicking another field goal, and we just didn’t have enough time, and that will be the story of us.

For a little while, I forgot about our poor season. I had hope. I saw that thing that made me a Cutler supporter. I saw someone that regardless of the boos from fans, with nothing to play for, postseason wise, give it all that he had.

I imagine some of you are going to comment on here. “He has 126 million things to play for!” I know.

I welcome your comments. I will always reply.

Ask yourself first though, didn’t you almost think we were going to make the greatest comeback in NFL history? Even if just for a quarter?

Fun wasn’t it?

P.S. I still want Marc Trestman gone. Jay can stay.
