In an unexpected, yet necessary move, the Chicago Bears decided to put quarterback Jay Cutler on the bench for Week 16’s game against the Detroit Lions.

On Sunday, the Bears face the Lions and their #2 ranked defense. I don’t expect Clausen to come in and be Tom Brady, but I still am in favor of the move. I think Trestman is only doing it for job security purposes. He probably thinks making a drastic change will gain him support from the fans and the front office. He knows his job is in jeopardy, so he is taking a risk.

ecause of this move, the Bears can see what other options they have besides Cutler. They can see if Clausen is anything good at all by putting him in against a tough team this week. If he isn’t, they can look elsewhere for Jay’s replacement or stick with him.

Clausen was picked in the second round in 2010 out of Notre Dame and played one season for the Panthers before being replaced by Cam Newton. He never really had a fair shot. This is his chance to prove himself. Considering the Bears season is over, I like this move a lot. There is nothing to lose. Let’s give this guy a chance.
