Virginia McCaskey is pissed off!
One thing that came up during the George McCaskey and Ted Phillips press conference in the wake of the firings of GM Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman was what George’s mother Virginia thought about the state of the Bears. It took George a moment to collect his thoughts and he seemed to get emotional before answering:
"“She’s been very supportive,” McCaskey started, stopping again for several seconds. “She agrees with the decisions that we made,” he continued, pausing again. “She’s pissed off. I can’t think of a 91-year-old woman that that description would apply, but in this case, I can’t think of a more accurate description.”"

Those are some powerful words and powerful emotions from the Chairman of the Board. It’s clear that the McCaskeys didn’t go into this lightly, but the sweeping changes set into motion are being driven all the way from the very top of the family tree:
"“She’s been on this earth for eight of the Bears’ nine championships, and she wants more,” McCaskey said. “She feels that it’s been too long since the last one (in the 1985 season), and that dissatisfaction is shared by her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She’s fed up with mediocrity. She feels that she and Bears fans everywhere deserve better.”"
With any luck, the George Halas Trophy, named for Virginia’s father for the NFC Champion, will return to Chicago after the next GM and head coach are hired. President and CEO Ted Phillips thinks the Bears can compete for a title as early as next season. What do you think? Can the Bears turn it around so Virginia McCaskey can stop being “pissed off?”
