Per Ian Rapoport, the Bears are set to interview Chiefs executive Chris Ballard for the open General Manager position at Halas Hall.

This is the first confirmed General Manger interview for the Bears, so let’s take a look at what we can expect if he’s offered the job.

Ballard began his career in Chicago as a scout. After 12 seasons, he was elevated to Director of Player Personnel, and accepted the same position with the Chiefs in 2013. Ballard’s definitely known throughout Halas Hall, and we can assume that’ll give him an edge over other potential hires.

Ballard’s considered to have quite an eye for talent. He’s also garnered a lot of interest from several clubs in regards to their own GM vacancies. Ballard’s a well-respected up-and-coming executive, and his reputation precede’s a great ability to scout players.

This comes as good news as the Bears need to start developing their team through the draft, and this past season is proof that successful teams aren’t built exclusively through free agency.

There’s rumor that Ex-Special Teams coach Dave Toub will be on his short list for head coach. Toub has a defensive background, and a hard-nosed defensive philosophy would be more than welcome in Chicago.
