Well Chicago Bears fans. I haven’t written in a couple weeks because the Bears season is over.
I’m still watching football, though.
The playoffs are kind of depressing for us fans of teams that didn’t make it. There have been years I didn’t watch any of the “tournament,” to include the Super Bowl.
If I do watch, it’s to see our NFC North rivals get beat.
This year, Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys had the fortune to play the Lions in the Wild Card round. The ‘Boys won the game 24-20, and sent our rivals home.
Sunday, 1:05 PM, January 11th, In the Year of our Lord, 2015, they face off against our most hated rivalry, The Green Bay (insert joke here) Packers.
I will be watching that one too, and I hope they come away with a win.
As a Chicago Bears fan, it’s literately all I have left to root for in the NFL until the draft.
When I decided to write this, I thought of all the ties that I have to the great state of Texas. There are quite a few.
When I was in the Army, I was stationed at Fort Hood, TX in 1987. I was seventeen and traveled all around the state. I went to Dallas a few times because I had met a girl there. A strange coincidence to tomorrow’s game is that she worked at a fudge place in the mall.
Most notably, there was a girl named Dawn that was a dance major at UT at Austin, whom I got engaged to, but did not marry.
Head straight down I 35 and go to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Did that like 4 times. Never even got arrested. I’m pretty proud of that one.
Later, when I was stationed in Korea, (don’t feel the need to say South,) the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders came and gave an appearance at my base. I got to meet with them and it was quite an experience.
They thanked us for our service and put on a great show. sing here “Brown Chicken Brown Cow.”

My wife, Beth Napier, grew up a Cowboys fan as her father is from Texas. She went down there to visit with him and let him meet his grandson just recently. He’s three years old and Texas is the first state he can identify on a map. He’s also sings “All my exes live in Texas,” complete with country twang.
I have to mention my friend and colleague, Norm Sewell, a huge Cowboys fan. He reads everything I write, and even came over for Bears/Cowboys game. One of the most dependable guys I know.
I do believe that the Cowboys are like the Chicago Bears in that they spark interest outside of their fanbase. I’ve seen parallels between our teams for awhile in that we have had the talent to get over the hump, we just couldn’t do it.
Dallas found a way to do it. Going in to Seattle and winning earlier in the season made me start to believe they might have something here.
I also want to thank Jerry Jones for letting my Ohio State Buckeyes use their stadium for our National Championship game against Oregon on Monday night. Don’t worry, we will clean up after our little party.
As a Bears fan, The Ohio State Buckeyes have saved me from medication this football season. If you don’t have a college team, I highly recommend them. Take them with food and a full glass of water. It helps prepare you for what happens on Sunday with the Chicago Bears.
Chicago Bears fans hang in there, it can only get better. With better coaching, we could be where the Cowboys are at next season.
GO BUCKS!
