Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace made his first move on Tuesday when he decided to part ways with Director of Pro Scouting Kevin Turks. Zach Zaidman was first to report the news:
Turks is a 13-year veteran of the Chicago Bears. Turks joined the club in 2001 as an intern, assisting in the scouting department. He was promoted to a Pro Scout in 2002. He worked in that capacity from ’02 – ’08. In 2008, Jerry Angelo promoted Turks to Assistant Director of Pro Personnel. Phil Emery promoted Turks to Director of Pro Scouting in 2013.

The Bears struggled with some of their pro personnel decisions over the years. Some might argue that years of bad drafting forced the Bears hand to make some questionable personnel decisions and overpaying for unproven players or over the hill veterans. To be fair, there’s been a few hits in the pro scouting department too. Willie Young is a player brought in via free agency that appears to be a win.
You can expect a few more moves from Ryan Pace as he rebuilds the Bears front office and scouting department over the coming weeks and months. I doubt you’d see much of a change in the college scouting area until after the draft, buy you never know. Pace could try to bring in some of his own guys, although it’s unlikely anyone from the Saints would be allowed to make the move during the current scouting cycle. The Senior Bowl is coming up as teams start gearing up for the Combine.
