DeVante Parker: Chicago Bears Draft Prospect Profile

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

With the draft less than a month away Beargoggleson will be breaking down a wide range of options for the Chicago Bears in the 2015 draft. We’ll start with the potential first round options, profile some possible day 2 prospects, and finish up with some under the radar day 3 players who I think could be good fits for the Bears new schemes on both sides of the ball. As always, if you have any complaints, advice, or questions please let us know in the comments or on Twitter.

College Career:

Very productive receiver throughout his college career as Teddy Bridgewater’s primary target for two seasons. Parker tied the school record with 33 career TD receptions in 31 starts. He missed the first seven games of the 2014 season with a foot injury, but caught 43 passes for 855 yards and 5 TDs the final 6 games of the season.

Strengths:

Lanky receiver with great body control, reliable hands, and natural ability to track the ball in the air. He’s not a burner, but has good enough speed and with his height and 80″ wingspan Parker doesn’t need to create much separation to be open. Parker can make tough catches in traffic and high points the ball consistently. He’s also quick after the catch and fights for extra yards. Worst case Parker will be a dangerous red zone weapon, but I think he has potential to be a legit #1 WR in the NFL.

Weaknesses:

Thin build that could use some added muscle. Parker could struggle to beat bigger press corners at the next level if he doesn’t get stronger. There are also some minor injury concerns after missing 8 games over the course of his college career.

Bears Fit:

With the trade of Brandon Marshall, the Bears have a potential opening at the #2 WR position. 3rd year player Marquess Wilson is an option, but he’s unproven and was drafted by the old regime. Parker is talented enough to start as a rookie across from Alshon Jeffery, and would give the Bears another dangerous red zone weapon. He’s also elusive after the catch in the open field and tracks the ball well on deep passes. Parker is a well-rounded receiver and if he can get a little stronger and stay healthy he could develop into a true #1 WR.

Draft Projection: Top 15
