Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace has quite a rebuilding project on his hands. In the next phase of our Chicago Bears Roster Review, we look at the players who are currently on the Bears roster. We’ll look back at their 2014 season and look ahead to how they might fit into the team’s plans in 2015.
David Fales, QB, 24
2014 Review
David Fales didn’t see the field in the 2014 regular season, spending most of the year on the practice squad. The rookie sixth round pick was elevated to the active roster in December, but did not play any snaps. The Bears reportedly elevated David Fales in response the New England Patriots making a push to sign him.
Fales played sparingly in the preseason, and saw most of his action in the finale against the Cleveland Browns. He went 13 of 24 for 146 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception in that game. Those stats might not look that impressive, but David Fales showed some flashes of competence. I was relatively surprised when the Bears waived him, because I thought he had performed well enough to warrant a spot on the 53-man roster.
2015 Outlook
Bleak. I like David Fales, but the odds of a second year sixth round pick surviving a complete regime change are not very good. He was mentioned by the Bears’ brass as involved in the open position battle at quarterback this offseason, but I don’t think there is a realistic chance that he starts or is even second string this season. David Fales will likely compete with any other quarterbacks the Bears bring in this offseason via the draft or Free Agency for a chance to be third on the depth chart.
What do you guys think? Will David Fales make the roster this season? Do you even want him to? Let me know in the Comments…
