The Chicago Bears added a space eater to the middle of their defense in the second round, selecting Florida State defensive tackle Eddie Goldman.

Here’s our scouting report on Goldman, ranked the #3 DT in our rankings:

"3.) Eddie Goldman, Florida St (6’3 | 320 | 5.28)Scouting report – At times Goldman looked like the best defensive tackle in college football, but his performance was inconsistent. At his best he is a scheme versatile player who is strong enough to shut down the run inside and quick enough to generate pressure as a DT or a 5-tech end. Goldman has the potential to dominate in multiple roles, he just needs to improve his motor and be more consistent with his technique. Watch the 4 quarter & overtime of the Clemson game to get an idea of what Goldman can do when motivated.Projection: 1st round"

Here is a highlight reel on Goldman:

The Bears add a much needed piece to a defense that struggled mightily the last couple of seasons.  Goldman checks in at 6’4″ and 320 pounds.  He’ll anchor Vic Fangio’s 3-4 defensive front.  I expect he’ll rotate with Jeremiah Ratliff at nose tackle.  Most experts have him as a two-down run stuffer, although he did play defensive end his first couple of years at FSU before moving inside to his more natural position in 2014.

While his stats don’t jump off the page – 62 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 6 sacks in 32 games – he’s the type of player who does the dirty work to let others clean up and make plays.

What do you think of the pick?  Would you rather have seen an offensive tackle or linebacker?  Would you have preferred another DT?
