Round 4 – RB Jeremy Langford, Michigan St

Grade: C+

I like Langford as a running back prospect and think he can be productive as a rotational back. As a former receiver Langford has good hands out of the backfield, is decent in pass pro, has home run speed (4.42) and runs with more power than expected for a 208 pound back. He has a good chance to earn the #2 RB spot behind Matt Forte and may push last year’s 4th round pick Ka’Deem Carey off the roster.

As much as I like Langford, I would have liked to see the Bears use this pick on a player at a position of greater need. It’s possible the new regime doesn’t consider Carey a viable backup, but if they consider RB a need then backs like Jay Ajayi and David Cobb were available and graded ahead of Langford on my board. There were also players available at positions like ILB, RT, and DE where the Bears are even thinner than at RB. I had ILB Ramik Wilson, OT T.J. Clemmings, and DE Gabe Wright graded at least one round higher than Langford and I thought they would have been better fits with this pick.
