As David Letterman hangs up his microphone after over three decades on late night television, we look at some famous Chicago Bears appearances on his show.  Before Letterman moved to CBS to host The Late Show with David Letterman, we had Late Night with David Letterman on NBC after The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.  Walter Payton, William Perry, Jim McMahon and Mike Ditka all made appearances on Letterman in the 80’s.  The 1985 Bears were a cultural phenomenon and where better to show their stuff and get a look at these kooky and off the wall personalities than on Letterman’s show, home to all things a little kooky and wacky.

Walter Payton

Appearance Date: 12/10/1984

Other Guests: John Denver

Payton had broken Jim Brown’s all time rushing record earlier in the 1984 season and went on the Letterman show to talk about breaking the record and his various accomplishment on the field, including a stint where Sweetness played a little quarterback.
