Prospects for 2015

I think it’s fair to say that Langford’s running style is comparable to Forte and Carey. All three have decent, but not breakaway, speed, and are tough runners who don’t quite classify as power backs. To be clear, I’m not saying Langford will be as good as Forte. At least through college, he obviously hasn’t proven he has Forte’s pass catching ability, and hasn’t had the chance yet to show that his success at Michigan State will carry over to Chicago. But I’m optimistic that Langford can work either as a future feature back or, at the least, as part of a split backfield.

As the first back drafted by a new regime, Langford is a lock to make the roster. With GM Ryan Pace and Fox also picking up Rodgers, it seems Carey, drafted in the Emery Era, could be the odd man out. That’s a shame, because Carey didn’t get enough game experience in 2014 to determine whether he’s worth a roster spot as a running back. If Langford shows up ready to work, I expect the slot as Number 2 back will be his to lose.
