#TBT: Chicago Bears complete comeback against Vikings, 33-24

A note on the defense: This is one of those games where people can argue if they played well or not, and is certainly the second time in three games that the offense bailed them out of a tough spot.

There were plenty of positives to be found: Allowing only 34 rushing yards, sacking Kramer four times and pounding him throughout the game, forcing five turnovers, including picks from Leslie Frazier, Wilber Marshall and Otis Wilson.
It’s also fair to point out, though, that they gave up more than 400 passing yards to Kramer – a solid, but far from Hall of Fame quarterback – and three touchdowns, including a bomb to Anthony Carter that burned Frazier, the Bears’ best cover man, in the second half to keep the Vikings in the game.
And all those passing yards came in a game where the Bears were getting to the quarterback, as was the point in Buddy Ryan’s defense. It’s a little alarming, in hindsight, to consider the fact that this was a game where the Bears defense functioned as it should have – stop the run, punish the quarterback – and still surrendered 24 points and more than 400 passing yards.
Ryan would fix the defense though, and they’d eventually turn into the squad that everyone still remembers today.
