Happy Tuesday, BEARS FANS!!! I’ve decided to try to resurrect an old favorite of mine, Bear Dawn. It’s the latest Chicago Bears news from around the interwebs. Here’s what you need to know for Tuesday June 9, 2015…
The Bears made a couple of roster moves on Monday. First they signed veteran cornerback Tracy Porter, taking the roster spot created when Ray McDonald was shown the door. Porter is excited to resume his NFL career.
"“It’s a blessing first and foremost to continue my NFL career,” Porter told ChicagoBears.com. “I just felt like it was the right situation, the right place for me. To have a familiarity with coach Fox and to know Ryan Pace and a lot of those guys in the front office and a couple of coaches on the staff and to be familiar with the playbook, that had a lot to [do with it]. It was just the right fit.”"
Then the Bears inked undrafted rookie tryout invitee, wide receiver Ify Umodu and released linebacker Jamil Merrell. From the Bears press release:
"Umodu appeared in 39 contests during his collegiate career at Northern Arizona (2010-14), grabbing 136 receptions for 1,883 yards and 15 touchdowns. As a senior in 2014, he led the Lumberjacks in receptions (47) and receiving yards (692) and tied for the team lead in touchdown catches (five). He also appeared in six games as a freshman on the Lumberjacks basketball team."
It’s no surprise that a judge dismissed Ray McDonald’s defamation lawsuit:
"In an opinion issued Friday, Judge William J. Elfving said that the only “third party” the woman spoke to regarding an alleged sexual assault on Dec. 14, 2014, in San Jose was the police. And anyone who speaks to law enforcement of suspected criminal activity “clearly arises from protected activity,” Elfving wrote. Legal experts, such as former prosecutor Steven Clark, had already predicted that ruling would occur."
Speaking of McDonald, how will the Bears fill the void at defensive end? We have a few ideas with the best available free agent defensive ends.
The Bears have quickly become believers in new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Jared Allen likes the fresh start:
"“Everything is different,” end-turned-outside-linebacker Jared Allen said. “It’s kind of a fresh start. In defenses I’ve been in over the years overall, and being in this scheme, this is a fun defense to play in.“There’s a high-level of accountability for everybody, and I’ve always felt that breeds greatness. There are no excuses. Either you are right or you are wrong, and you have the freedom to make plays. The sky is the limit for us.”"
In case you haven’t checked it out yet, the Chicago Bears have their very own YouTube channel.
