It’s still way too many days until the Chicago Bears kickoff the 2015 season at home against the Green Bay Packers, but until then Bear Goggles On will be counting down the days by reviewing each player on the roster. Up next is #81, wide receiver Cameron Meredith.
Everyone loves to see the local kid made good, and that’s what Bears fans can hope for with rookie wide receiver Cameron Mededith. The Westchester, IL native was a walk on at Illinois State University and like our #82 profile for John Chiles, Meredith is also a converted quarterback, switching to wide receiver before his junior season at ISU.

"“All my life I always told myself driving down Lake Shore Drive that one day I’d be playing in [Soldier Field],” Meredith says. “The mind is a powerful thing and 19 or 20 years later I’m actually in the process of making that dream a reality.”"
In Part Three of the Meet the Rookies series, we get to know wide receiver and local kid Cameron Meredith. We learn about his transition from quarterback to wide receiver. Meredith moved to WR in 2013 and ended up leading ISU with 370 receiving yards and 5 TD’s on 21 receptions in his junior season. As a senior he led the Redbirds with 66 catches for 1,061 yards and 9 touchdowns.
The Bears scooped up Meredith as an undrafted free agent right after the NFL Draft in May. Meredith joins a crowded Chicago Bears wide receiver group, fighting for a roster spot behind the presumed top four of Alshon Jeffery, Eddie Royal, Kevin White and Marquess Wilson. Meredith has proven to be adaptable and they may be his key to try to stick on this roster. If he can adapt again to become a special teams standout, perhaps there’s a chance the local kid from Westchester could make his childhood dream of playing in Soldier Field a reality. I don’t know about you, but I’m rooting for him to become a camp hero, but realistically, making the practice squad might be a more realistic goal for this rookie receiver.
We’re just 81 days until kickoff. Are you ready?!?!
