The phrase “defense wins championships” may seem overused at times, but historically it is a fact that can’t be denied. Without a solid defense and true pass rushers, the team will not go far. What this means for the Bears is that a talented defensive player like Willie Young has to play well this year.

Young led the team in sacks a season ago with ten, but he will need to increase that number this year. The Bears pass rush has been an embarrassment, but consistent production from Young can help to turn that all around.  He must make his presence felt on every play, and become the kind of player that strikes fear in offensive linemen and keeps coordinators up at night. Young’s level of production will have an enormous impact on the team’s defensive success.

If he can regularly produce, it will help prevent the Bears from another season of blowout losses.
