The off-season has been a little shaky for Martellus Bennett due to contract disputes that caused him to miss OTAs. Hopefully, the spat between Bennett and the organization will end with him getting compensated for his production.

The truth is the Bears need Bennett more than he needs them.

Bennett has been very vocal about his disappointment in his current pay, but he can’t allow that to affect what he does on the field. Regardless of if or when he gets paid he still has a responsibility to his teammates and fans.

His presence on the field helps to stop defenses from double covering Alshon Jeffery or stacking the box against Matt Forte. Opposing teams understand that he is a real receiving threat, which puts more pressure on them. Despite how fans may feel about Bennett’s outspoken ways there is no denying he is a vital asset to the team.

In the last year, he has been mentioned with the top tight ends in the league and rightfully so. In 2014, he led all tight ends in receptions with 90, he also had 916 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Bennett can be an even more dominating player this season in Adam Gase’s tight end friendly offense.

The better he is, the more potent the Bears offense becomes, making them difficult to stop.
