Chicago Bears News: Ray McDonald Charged and Much More

Happy Friday, Bears’ fans! Welcome to the newest edition of Bear Dawn, the latest Chicago Bears news and notes from throughout the web.

The tragic case of Ray McDonald continued on Thursday, as the short-time Bears’ defensive end was officially charged with “felony false imprisonment stemming from a domestic violence report nearly two months ago,” according to Lisa Fernandez of NBCBayArea.com. McDonald “allegedly assaulted his then-fiance as she was holding their 2-month old baby.”

McDonald had a great eight-year career with the San Francisco 49ers, but off-the-field issues started popping up all over the place the past few seasons, completely derailing his career. The 49ers released McDonald, but because of his success in new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s 3-4 defense in the past, the Bears decided to give him a shot. After this domestic abuse case happened two months ago, the Bears immediately cut ties.

Hopefully McDonald can get his life turned around, because obviously he is not doing something right.

On a much lighter note, Kevin Fishbain of Chicago Football takes a look at Bears rookie wide receiver Kevin White. Fishbain talks about White’s obvious skill-set on the field, but also the struggles he will face transitioning to the NFL. This piece is loaded with interesting quotes from White, his high school coach, his junior college coach, Bears GM Ryan Pace and Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase.

The official Chicago Bears website continues their Coaches Corner series with a profile on Mike Groh, who will be in charge of the wide receivers. Groh is the only coach from the Bears’ old coaching staff who was retained by the new regime under the same title. Groh is a very good coach, and he has a lot of talent to work with at the wide receiver position.

Quarterback Jay Cutler and his wife Kristin Cavallari are expecting another child, and they announced on Thursday that it will be a baby girl! Congrats to Jay and his family, and their little girl will be the third child in the Cutler family.

Eric Karabell of ESPN.com looks at the Bears’ roster from a fantasy perspective. There is some pretty interesting stuff here, but you are going to need an ESPN Insider subscription to check out the full piece.

Our own Boomer touched on this on Thursday, but I figured it would be a nice addition to the morning notes too. Danny Ecker of Crain’s Chicago Business shows us what Bears tickets will cost in this upcoming season.

Lastly, Matt Eurich of Bleacher Report recaps “The Latest Buzz (for the Bears) Heading into Training Camp.”
