Bear Goggles On, first and foremost, is a one-stop-shop for all things Chicago Bears.  Spending so much time and energy talking about our team inevitably results in tangential conversations about our division rivals, however, and today we’re once again taking a stroll down that dark path.  This is the third in a three-part series (Part One: Detroit Lions, Part Two: Minnesota Vikings) where we’re looking at the relevant fantasy contributors playing for our NFC North brethren.  Today we take a fantasy-based look at the rival Green Bay Packers.

Oh, the Green Bay Packers.  Likely due to the fact that I live in Michigan and not in northern Illinois, the Packers for me have never ignited that deep internal hatred.  That’s not to say I’m a closet fan by any means, it’s just that the strongest feelings of loathing for me are usually aimed at the Detroit Lions.

It also has something to do with the respect (and a bit of jealousy) I have for how they’ve run their franchise in the last 20 years or so.  I want our Bears to find a way to be as relevant year-in and year-out as our cousins from Wisconsin.  From 1994 thru 2014, the Packers’ W/L record is 207-112-1.  The Bears’ record in that time?  153-167.

It kills me to say it, but that’s the difference between mediocrity and excellence.  And it doesn’t take a big leap to tie those statistics directly to the quarterback position.

It’s also fair to say that it has a lot to do with the men running the team.  The Cheeseheads have had Ron Wolf and Ted Thompson (and Mike Sherman) as acting General Managers in the last 20 years.  We’ve had Mark Hatley, Jerry Angelo and Phil Emery.  Heck, even Wanny was de facto GM for a few years.

Whatever the reason or reasons, outside of a few years in the sun the Packers have simply been the better team.  That’s excuse enough to hate them, sure, but we need to hope that the franchise we root for finds a way to emulate them.  We’re starting fresh with GM Ryan Pace and HC John Fox so maybe, just maybe, they get this franchise aimed in the right direction once and for all.

Anyway, lets move on to our fantasy football discussion about the Pack.  I alluded to the consistent leg up they’ve had on us in the QB position, and they happen to have one of the very best currently.  Also one of the best RBs.  And two of the top ten wide receivers.  Damn those Packers!

Considering the differences in one fantasy football league to the next, the act of valuing players is a bit of a subjective endeavor and as such this is just a general outlook.  I’ll specify between PPR/Non-PPR when applicable, but the general framework of this discussion will be a 10-team re-draft league.
