The slow march towards the NFL season is nearing its conclusion. Training camps all around the league are starting. The Vikings and the Steelers are only about a week and a half away from kicking off in the annual Hall of Fame game. Soon thereafter the full slate of preseason gets underway and all of a sudden we have games, real NFL games to digest.

Okay, they’re just preseason games but still it’s an exciting time of year. Once the season is here, it’s here, and man does it ever go fast once it arrives. That’s why despite the summer heat and weariness from six months of waiting for football, I actually enjoy this moment in the annual NFL calendar.

It’s the anticipation for what’s to come; Christmas Eve for football fans. And before the Christmas morning payload that is the beginning of the 2015 regular season, what is the one gift we get to open early? Fantasy football.
The fatal flaw in my Christmas analogy, however, is that for some people the onset of fantasy football season is more important than the results of the season itself. I like to think of myself as a balanced fan in that regard. I love the Bears and I’m always excited for their season to start, but fantasy football for me is the gateway drug to enjoying the NFL season as a whole.

And in 5-11 seasons like last year’s Chicago Bear train wreck, fantasy football provides a nice reprieve from reality football.
To help you prepare for your Christmas-in-August fantasy football bonanza, today I’m taking a look at the top 20 tight ends available for the upcoming season. I’ll start with number 20 and work my way to the top-rated tight end, a guy that some fantasy football publications are touting as a potential number one overall pick.
The analysis contained on the following slides is based on a 10-team re-draft league that awards points-per-reception, so keep that in mind as you read thru. And with that, let’s get this show on the road.
