With full disclosure that I wasn’t able to watch the game with nearly the same detail that I normally would, I did have some observations that I’ll break down into things I liked and things I didn’t like…

Five Things I Liked:

More from Bear Goggles On

It was nice to see Ryan Pace’s top free agent selection getting after it against the Colts, especially after a rough start in the first preseason game against the Dolphins.  On the Colts’ second offensive snap of the game, McPhee beat his man with a nice inside move and sacked Andrew Luck for a 9 yard loss.  McPhee showed another good pass rush in beating a double team to pressure Luck to force a punt on the next play.  McPhee finished his limited action with 4 tackles, a sack, at least one QB pressure and a tackle for loss.  Not bad for a half of football.

Let’s face it, Ryan Pace’s career as Bears GM hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts.  With the whole Ray McDonald fiasco and the Kevin White injury, it hasn’t come up Aces for Pace.  If McPhee can lead the defense and justify the free agent contract Pace gave him to be a leader on the Bears defense, it will certainly soften the blow.
