Quarterbacks (3): Jay Cutler, Jimmy Clausen and David Fales
Due to his large contract, and lack of other options, Cutler is the starting quarterback for the Bears. He enters the 2015 season with a new offense, and while he appears to be doing well, I will believe it when I see it in the regular season. If the Bears somehow become surprise contenders in the division this season, Cutler likely turned a corner and was a huge reason why.
Clausen is his primary back-up, and he is a good back-up to have around when healthy. That being said, Clausen has been dealing with a concussion issue that may make him unavailable for the season opener. If he were 100% healthy, the Bears could probably get away with carrying only him and Cutler at the position on the active roster. With his health in question, I doubt that happens.
The third quarterback spot comes down to David Fales and the recently acquired Zac Dysert. Fales had a great showing in the Bears’ final preseason game, and he is probably the guy with the more upside. Dysert has experience in Fox and Gase’s system which would obviously be great to keep around.
Ideally, Fales would make the roster and Dysert gets to the practice squad. If the Bears decide to put Dysert on the roster, I doubt Fales will pass through waivers and make it to the practice squad.
