Wow. I haven’t been able to write about a Chicago Bears win since my birthday last year. It was so long ago that I’m getting ready to have another birthday cake next month. This win brings new life into the organization, and some of the moves made in the off-season are starting to payoff.
Yes, I know it was the Raiders, but this Raider team is on the upswing. Their first round draft pick, WR Amari Cooper, was ready to go for the season, unlike our WR Kevin White, who got injured in camp and started the season on the PUP list. We may get him back this year, but I wouldn’t be too sure of it.
The Raiders also have a great defense. Our solid run game and in-game adjustments allowed us to pull this one off and we really needed it.
Jay Cutler being back was great. Yes, he threw his usual interception that we all have come to expect. So much so that we know it will happen, we just don’t know when or how costly.
Kind of like my wife knows that I’ll usually say something that’ll embarrass her, she just can’t anticipate it’s timing. When it happens, Jay’s pick, and my par-for the-course inconsideration, we can all rest easy and hope there isn’t another one.
I’m glad the new coaches and front office saw the value in keeping Robbie Gould. They realized that there are other places to cut corners that don’t jeopardize our ability to win games like Sunday’s game. C’mon Chicago Bear fans, you knew at the end of this one, all that we had to do, was get in field goal range and we were Goulden.
Another thing that made this game special was that I got to watch this game with almost (I’ll explain the almost in a minute) the biggest Chicago Bears fan I know.
When my wife had to travel for a company picnic, (freezing cold, sucked,) I saw it as an opportunity to go with her to Northern Virginia to catch the game with an integral piece of my original football/wings club, Doug Hatch. My family was also able to meet a brand new 6 week-old future Chicago Bears fan and see the rest of Doug’s family.
It was all good, until…………….
I know that a lot of people are into fantasy football. I get it. I accept it. I just don’t play. The thing that makes me want to choke the living crap out of Doug is the fact that he keeps taking Aaron Rodgers as his QB.
Hasn’t this guy caused your team enough pain that would keep you from wanting to pour gasoline on the fire? Doug was quick to tell me that he doesn’t root for the Packers. He just wants Aaron Rodgers to throw for 6 touchdowns, but for them to miraculously lose the game.
There are other QBs you can take Doug. That’s like a buddy dating your crazy ex-girlfriend, as opposed to maybe millions of other choices, while she still has a valid protective order, and legally cannot come within five hundred yards of you.
Doug, I’ll continue to love you until you can love yourself.

Anyway, good win for our team and I hope they keep coming. The first three weeks were scary, but if you look at the rest of the schedule, it’s not so unthinkable that we can’t squeeze out 8-9 more wins. Think about winning against the division rivals, and think about the fact that the Lions and the Vikings still have tough games against them.
Wouldn’t it be something to go into Lambeau on Thanksgiving and split with the Packers? I would definitely come out of my food coma singing and dancing for that. Brett Favre‘s number retirement game? Brett might even secretly enjoy it. They did move on from him to go to Rodgers, and Rodgers has owned the Chicago Bears. We managed to win games against number 4 when he was at the helm.
Forget losing for a better draft pick, where’s our first rounder from 2015? Look at the Lions, high draft picks for a few years and still 0-4 on the season.
It’s the Law of Attraction Chicago Bears fans. Hope for the best. Send it out to the Universe, and see what happens.
No matter what, if you are a Bears fan, don’t take Aaron Rodgers as your fantasy QB.
