Bear Dawn: Alshon Jeffery one away

Monday night against the Chargers, Alshon Jeffery could become the 1st Bear since Jeff Graham in 1995 to record 3 straight games with 100+ receiving yards.

Bobby Engram (121) & Marcus Robinson (163) are the only Bears WRs to ever record 100-yd games against San Diego. They both did it in the same contest on 11/21/99, a 23-20 Bears OT victory.

San Diego is ranked 25th against the pass, which should open the door for Alshon Jeffery to achieve his third 100 yard game. I was really excited when the Bears drafted him but I will admit I have been somewhat disappointed in his play. It’s not that he is not talented, nor is it about the injuries, it to goes to his inconsistent ability in getting separation. I think there has been too much dependency on the “jump ball” mentality.

I am hoping as the season progresses he starts working his routes where he does get free and take the pressure of him out jumping DB’s to make catches. Against the Chargers he will have a distinct size advantage for their CB’s are both under 6′ tall.

Since the Bears are not playing today, and enjoying the sunny and warm environs of San Diego, we can focus on the other NFC North teams. Lions are on a bye week so no matter what happens Monday night the Bears are still in third place.

The key game is GB v CAR @ Carolina. This match up is going to be interesting. You got one of the better passing offenses in GB going up against the 2nd best pass defense in the Panthers. Where it could get interesting is Carolina is strong running the ball where GB run defense is one of the lowest ranked in the NFL. I like Carolina with the Rivera/Newton combo over the Packers.

The Vikings are playing the Rams at home. Both teams are on win streaks so that will end for one of them. Many believe the Vikings are the worse 5-2 team in the league, and this game could prove that right. Neither team is stellar offensively but the game changer is the Rams D, one of the tops in both run and pass defense. The Vikings are deplorable against the run and the Rams are so-so in that area. In the end Rams defense will pervail and STL wins their third in a row.

The Bears coaches after watching the Vikings film, have adjusted the tackles made. Amos now credited with team leading 8 solo’s. There is no doubt Adrian Amos has turned into a nice draft pick and has brought some stability to the Safety position. He is still learning the craft, but shows a solid work ethic and barring any injuries will be a mainstay for years to come.

For a bit of humor here is Lamarr Houston and his 3 and out

The injury report for the Chargers is out and as expected Forte ruled out as well, as Royal with a knee injury.
