Bears rookie Tayo Fabuluje was suspended by the NFL for four games for using performance enhancing drugs on Tuesday. Fabuluje will be eligible to return after the San Francisco 49ers game on December 7.
According to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the violation occurred because of an appetite suppressant he took during training camp. The supplement is available OTC and can be found at most health and vitamin stores.
The suspension has little to no impact on the Bears, as Fabuluje is considered a project and rarely plays. If Fabuluje only took the supplement by mistake, I’m sure Ryan Pace and John Fox will overlook the rookie’s mistake and it will have little to no bearing on his future. But if Pace and Fox discover that this is part of a larger PED problem for Fabuluje they will probably send him on his way after this season. Pace has shown he’s a no nonsense guy and won’t stand for that, especially from a sixth round pick who borders on playing at all right now.
Fabujuje released a statement apologizing for his error and stated that he took the supplement by mistake. For now, it’s business as usual as the Bears prepare for this week’s match up with the St Louis Rams.
