When the Bears signed left guard Matt Slauson, many Bears fan’s did not bat an eye. Many did not know of the player, nor did many realize the talent their team was acquiring. Overshadowed by the signing of Jermon Bushrod and Martellus Bennet, many did not see that the best signing of them all may have been that of the former New York Jet.

Having a speech impediment from a young age, Slauson found joy in football. After playing his college ball at Nebraska, and completing a three year stint playing in the Jets organization, Slauson signed with the Bears and was elevated to their starting roster.

“He [Slauson] has proven his versatility in recent weeks with his performances stepping in at center from his customary spot at left guard.”

After battling back from a season ending injury in 2014, Slauson has come back with a vengeance.

Pro Football Focus has given much praise to Slauson, stating ” The Bears missed Matt Slauson (+2.8) badly last season after an impressive debut season for them in 2013, and he has proven his versatility in recent weeks with his performances stepping in at center from his customary spot at left guard. Slauson earned a positive grade as both a run blocker and pass protector in his third straight game.”

Slauson deserves to represent the Chicago Bears at the NFL Pro Bowl. With a black cloud covering the NFL, Slauson epitomizes what the game is about. Showcasing hard work, talent, passion, and an understanding that the team comes first. In my humble opinion, Slauson has played well enough to earn himself a trip to Hawaii.

With the Rams bolstering what may be the NFL’s best defensive front, Slauson will have to be play at his highest level. Slauson’s talents will be on display come Sunday, and that will be one reason to tune into this NFC matchup.
