On Tuesday, the NFL announced that rookie Tayo Fabuluje was suspended for four games for violating the league’s PED policy. On Thursday we learned that DE Ego Ferguson has joined him on that same suspended list.
The suspension for Ferguson will begin immediately. Ferguson was placed on season-ending IR in October with a knee injury so the LSU-product won’t actually miss any time due to the suspension. Ferguson will still be suspended without pay, which means the second-year defensive lineman will lose nearly $200,000 for his violation.
There has been no statement from Ferguson nor has there been any indication as to what type of banned substance Ferguson may have taken. It’s been a bizarre week for the Bears. Not only have Fabuluje and Ferguson been suspended, but the NFL also announced that Bears WR Jalen Saunders (currently on the practice squad) has also been suspended four games for violating an undisclosed NFL policy.
While none of these suspensions have any impact on the Bears on-the-field play, it’s still embarrassing to see three players on the team suspended in a three day stretch. For the Bears’ sake, hopefully this is just a series of isolated unfortunate events. If this becomes a systematic issue in Chicago, it’s something that Ryan Pace and John Fox will have to squash immediately.
For now, the Bears and their fans move on and prepare for the Rams on Sunday afternoon.
