Ezekiel Elliott’s name burst onto the national scene last year when he and the Buckeyes captured their first BCS National Championship in the Urban Meyer era. Elliott has since done nothing but impress scouts and will be the first tailback selected in this coming NFL Draft.
Coming from a rich bloodline that includes a mother who was a sprinter at Mizzou, along with a father who played college ball for the Tigers – Elliott was born to play football.
"“He’s powerful, fast, instinctive and catches the ball like a young LaDainian Tomlinson. Get him in Adam Gase’s offense, and he’s giving you 1,500 total yards as a rookie.”"
The proven winner is a three down back and can be a workhorse for years to come. His lower body strength, and low center of gravity is pivotal to his success as a pass blocker.
The area that separates Elliott from the rest of his competition is his natural breakaway speed due to his body type. Elliott runs like a bowling ball, accelerating quickly, but as soon as he gets rolling – he’s gone.
The Bears may have invested back to back fourth round selections on running backs these past two years, but Elliott could be a difference maker for the windy city franchise.
Head Bleacher Report NFL Scout, Matt Miller, recently had the Bears selecting the running back in his latest mock draft.
Miller’s reasoning is stated as follows “Ezekiel Elliott is worth it. He’s powerful, fast, instinctive and catches the ball like a young LaDainian Tomlinson. Get him in Adam Gase’s offense, and he’s giving you 1,500 total yards as a rookie.”
Miller told me that he had a higher grade on Todd Gurley coming out of college, but has Elliott following closely behind. Miller also added that the current Buckeye graded out higher than former OSU star, Carlos Hyde, a former first round selection.
Make sure to checkout Elliott, and the Buckeyes, as they take on the home favorite, Fighting Illini, this coming Saturday.
