Current Chicago Bears Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio was with the San Francisco 49ers organization from 2011 to 2014.
Fangio came to the club from the University of Stanford with then Head Coach, Jim Harbaugh. He then went separate ways once Harbaugh left for Michigan.
Fangio was interviewed by the 49ers for the Head Coach position, but it never truly seemed as if the team thought of him as a true candidate.
Fangio is making them eat their words now. He has the Bears 14th in total team defense, while the 49ers are currently ranked 29th in that very same category.
What many forget is that Adam Gase was the top candidate for the 49ers job, and the job was his to be had. However, there was one condition – Gase had to hire Jim Tomsula as his defensive coordinator.
Gase immediately rejected the offer and followed John Fox to Chicago.
Gase is also making the 49ers have second thoughts about their hire as the Chicago Bears currently hold the 20th spot in total team offense. Meanwhile the 49ers are currently last in the league in total offense, and have benched Colin Kaepernick, whom recently signed to a 6 year, $114 million deal.
Even more so, Gase has been the first Offensive Coordinator to elevate Jay Cutler’s game.
Look for Adam Gase and Vic Fangio to put their minds to the test, and strategically outmaneuver the opposition.
