Another home loss. If I still wanted to count the games the Chicago Bears should have won this season, this would be #5. We are beyond that. Let’s start playing another game called “why we shouldn’t have won any this year.” Not for draft picks, for my peace of mind.
See, when we won games this year, I started to believe. I became hopeful. I saw glimpses of my team in transition that looked really good at times. Even after losing last week to the 49ers, I was hopeful by reading things like this. While I was regurgitating what I had read, and why the Bears could still make the playoffs, I had to hear crap from a Bills fan. You know, because they are sooooooooooooooooo good this year.
The whole problem in the scenario, was that we needed to win OUR games too. Why shouldn’t we???? We dominated the Rams. We beat the Packers in Lambeau! We beat the Chiefs, who have now won seven in a row. The frustration comes from being so close to winning the winnable games, and then not closing. It’s the sports version of “just the tip.” Flat out losing feels different. It still sucks, but you never were able to see victory on the horizon.

Will the real Robbie Gould please stand up? Mr. Gould, thank you for your service. You will always be one of my favorite Chicago Bears. Not sure if you are going to be around anymore next year. The Packers stuck by kicker Mason Crosby through a real slump, but they had enough offense to overcome his inadequacies. You were actually counted on to be one of the strengths of a growing team. Until recently, you have been. I actually said to my wife yesterday that there’s no way he misses this one. We all know how that worked out.
Later on, my wife actually asked if I was alright. I mean, like, downward spiral into the depths of hell alright. Fortunately, she just heard something wrong. There are three more games left and I still want our Chicago Bears to fight for wins. Obviously, we want to win against our division rivals, Vikings and Lions.
We need to win the Lovie Smith/Buccaneers game, to prove that we were better to go in another direction, (let’s just pretend the Marc Trestman era was just a bad nightmare.) Starting out 0-3 is really hard to shake. Next season’s, (yes, it’s already on the dinner table,) schedule looks a lot more favorable. Another off-season can really make a difference. The draft, free agency, and even the undrafted, can push us into one of the top teams. Also, not starting out 3 games behind, will help just from a psyche point of view. Good things ahead for our team.
Just look at what has happened in one year with a team full of unknowns and hardly knowns.
If I’m still saying the same drivel next year about our underachieving Chicago Bears, I’ll quit writing, pull out my Rob Noxious clown suit, and say my goodbyes on Youtube for you guys in week seventeen, 2016. So there’s that to look forward to.
