6. Dan Hampton

“Danimal” was the heart and soul of the Bears defense in the mid-80s. He excelled as one of the great defensive tackles of his era and moved to defensive end in 1985 to give William Perry more snaps.

A versatile defender, Hampton is one of the great interior pass rushers in the history of the game. Hampton was dominant, but he constantly battled knee problems throughout his career. Had Hampton’s legs held up, he’d be even higher on this list.

He finished his career with 4 Pro Bowl appearances, was named first-team All-Pro 4 times and second team twice. He was a member of the 1980s all-decade team and was the Pro Football Writers’ Defensive Player of the Year in 1982.
