Chicago Bears Loss to Lions: A Fan’s Non-Expert Take
I thought I’d picture RB Matt Forte because it might have been his last game in a Chicago Bears uniform. Since he has been a Bear, he has been the poster child for dependability. When we didn’t have an offense, he was the offense. Lack of quality receivers on Chicago’s roster over the years have sculpted him into one of the best receiving backs of all-time, which he holds the NFL record for receptions by a RB in a season with 102, achieved in 2014. He will be missed if he doesn’t get an extension to come back. He wants to retire a Chicago Bear, I want him too as well. Let’s not have another Brian Urlacher situation. Of course the front office won’t want to pay him as much, but at least negotiate with his agent.

Well this game officially makes #6 of games we should have won this year that we lost. Jay threw 3 picks, but I’m giving him a pass because he did a complete 180 this season. I saw a guy that just desperately wanted to win and forced it a couple times. We ended up finishing the season with only one more win than last year. Whoopie. What makes it even more frustrating is that we were competitive in every game except maybe 2 or 3. Cardinals, only after losing Jay Cutler to injury, Seahawks, no Jay. Vikings in Minnesota, with a healthy Jay. If I was reaching, this competitiveness must be our improvement over last year. I’m actually just relieved that the season’s over. I want to be excited about our prospects, and the path to next season starts with this one wrapping up.
Watching the Packers lose the NFC North division crown to the Vikings gave me a little bit of joy, but it made me think about something. Really good teams can be in a slump and find ways to win. They find a way to push through it and do enough to make the playoffs. That’s what the Packers did this year. At one point they had lost 4 of 5 games, but they still made the playoffs. It’s a winning mentality and the Chicago Bears need that. We started 0-3, and I was excusing my team because of that, but if it was the Packers, I think they still would have made the post season. Sometimes you have to look at what your enemy is doing right in order to beat them.
Now we get to deal with the Vikings every year too. Great. They are playing with all heart. They took the division while using a loaner stadium as their home field. Outdoors, in Minnesota. You betcha. I still hate the Packers more and always will, but now I can start to brew a hatred for them too as they have become our biggest threat. I always felt so sorry for the Lions that I never worried about them, but they have beat us 6 times straight, so I need to get over that.
The bottom line is the Bears are on it. Our proud organization is now sitting on that bottom line, looking up at the rest of the division for two years in a row, and if we don’t get better next season, I’ll do something drastic, like whine a little louder, and bitch a little more, and threaten to whine even more. I’ll burn my jerseys. No I won’t, but I’ll definitely leave them in the dryer too long. I’ll stop watching the games. No, I’m not gonna do that either. I don’t even like to travel during the football season for fear of missing a Bears game due to a DVR malfunction, or electricity outage or tornado or something.
OK, so all I’m gonna do is keep hoping that my most unhealthy relationship, the one I have with the Chicago Bears, gets better.
Bear Down.
