The Rams moved back to LA on the 30th Anniversary of being crushed in the NFC Championship

The Rams made a lot of news this week when owner Stan Kroenke announced at the NFL Owners’ Meetings that the league had voted and approved for him to move his club to Los Angeles (Inglewood to be precise). The NFL has big hopes for football in Los Angeles this time around, despite the struggles it had in the early 1990s and a 21-year absence.

The announcement came this past Tuesday in the evening. Tuesday being the 12th of the month, it got me thinking about anniversaries and I realized that, in fact, the announcement of the Rams moving back to Los Angeles came on the exact 30th anniversary of the Chicago Bears 24-0 drubbing of those Los Angeles Rams on their way to the Super Bowl XX championship.

As a Bears fan, that brought a smile to my face that those two dates will be forever linked in football history- what a game that was. It was absolute domination by that vaunted defense. Of course, we all remember (or for those too young have seen the video) of Wilbur Marshall famously returning a fumble in the snow with William Perry escorting him to the end zone for the final score of the game. It was a picturesque ending of a fairy tale season.

Perhaps this coincidence isn’t a big deal, perhaps it’s just an excuse to embed some phenomenal youtube videos from that game, but regardless, you can find these videos below. Enjoy!
