Perhaps this is something I once knew and had completely forgotten or perhaps this was something that was totally fresh, but this was a fascinating story. Steve McMichael always has an attitude, but even he became sheepish 30 years later talking about this fight.
When the tension was rising between the offense and defense in 1985, apparently McMichael and Jimbo Covert started getting into it in practice. Covert had enough and basically suplexed McMichael and when McMichael took his helmet off, Covert belted him in the face. It was a fascinating story and one that felt totally new to me. It was definitely one of the best stories of the two hours.
