The NFL Free Agency puzzle pieces are starting to fall into place as the initial frenzy winds down a bit.  The Chicago Bears had a busy opening day, landing a couple of significant free agents in linebacker Danny Travathan, right tackle Bobby Massie and re-signing their own cornerback Tracy Porter to multi-year deals.  The Bears also made a few more minor moves including brining back running back Jaquizz Rodgers and tackle Nick Becton.

In the loss column, running back Matt Forte is headed to New York to fill the Jets’ running back vacancy.  The Bears are still linked to a few players, including Denver Broncos restricted free agent running back C.J. Anderson who could help fill the void left by Forte.  Jeremy Langford is expected to head the Bears running back group, with Rodgers, Ka’Deem Carey and Senorise Perry expected to be in the mix.

Anderson and John Fox certainly have a little history, with Anderson and Fox spending a couple of years together, including Anderson’s 2014 Pro Bowl season.  The Broncos signed Anderson as an undrafted free agent out of Cal in 2013 while Fox was the head coach.

Anderson has appeared in 35 games in his three-year career, accounting for 1600 rushing yards with 13 rushing touchdowns to along with 500 receiving yards on 59 catches.  Anderson’s running style and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield could complement Langford’s to form a nice one-two punch for the Bears, who will need a veteran to fill the leadership void created by Matt Forte’s departure.

The Broncos tendered Anderson at the low level, so if Anderson were to get an offer, they would have five days to match it but would not get any draft compensation if he were to sign elsewhere.  The Bears, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers are all rumored to be pursuing Anderson.
