72nd overall-Justin Simmons-FS/SS-Boston College

Justin Simmons is a ball hawking safety. Reminds me a lot of the Bears 4th round pick last season Adrian Amos in that he is an ex cornerback who was converted to safety, because he just wasn’t good enough to play corner back at the next level. Bears need more turnovers, and Simmons will help them get it joined in the back end with Amos for years to come. Interchangeable safety who needs a little more bulk to bang in the box. Another player who fits the Fangio traits he wants in his defensive backs.

Alternate picks:
A.) Jihad Ward-DT-Illinois- Bears double down with another interior lineman here if Simmons is gone. Ward had a great week at the senior bowl which goes a long way with me. Hard worker, strong and athletic DE/DT in Fangio’s defense.
B.) Jordan Jenkins-Edge-Georgia- One of my favorite players in the draft. Long arms, and big hands. Plays hard with a high motor. Three down player at the next level, but only as an edge rusher on passing downs. Limited in coverage.
C.) Charles Tapper-Edge-Oklahoma- Not very tall, but has long arms and huge mitts. Love his hand play which to me is huge for a pass rusher. Great measureables and explosion. High motor player.
