Top 10 Sleeper Inside Linebackers For The Bears In The 2016 NFL Draft
PLAYER OVERVIEW:
Will Ratelle-North Dakota- Will Ratelle was a two-way player filling the middle as a linebacker for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux’s and then opening holes for Sioux’s half backs as the teams fullback. As you can guess he’s an extremely physical player. Thickly built and low to the ground he will have anything or anyone he hits full on going backwards. I’m sure it’s possible the Bears cold use him in goal line and short yardage situations as both a blocker and a runner, but primarily if he’s drafted he’ll be an ILB and a core special teams player. Should play all four phases on special teams as he can both block and tackle. He’s also a very good athlete as you will find out later in the next paragraph.
MEASUREABLES AND PRODUCTION:
When you look at Ratelle on the hoof you think power, however he’s a very good athlete. He wowed scouts, coaches, and personnel men at his pro day with some surreal numbers from a guy like that. To see these numbers click here. As you would expect from a monster like him with those eye-popping measureables he had great production and stacked up the honors. SCOUTING REPORT:
Positives: Physical brute. That’s the first thing you notice about him, but he will out run you, and run you down just as easily as separate the soul from your body with a bone rattling jolt. Plays with natural leverage, and pad level and will stop anything that meets his mass dead in its tracks. Smart and instinctive with high motor and football character, as well as football IQ. Will star on special teams.
Negatives: Stiff in the hips. lacks range of motion to turn and run with the better athletes. The price you pay having that kind of muscle mass on that frame. Not ideal length to stack and shed. Assignment sound in zone, but does not offer a lot with limited ball skills which won’t create a lot of interceptions as he has one career interception.
