PLAYER OVERVIEW:

Montese Overton-East Carolina-Self proclaimed “the freak” and appropriately so. His body is chiseled and cut like a fine diamond with the athleticism to boot. Paired with teammate Zeek Biger to form what many thought was the best 3-4 ILB duo in the entire 2015 college football season. He was the primary blitzer of the two and did a very good job disrupting that part of the game for opposing offenses. Overton has tweener traits which is why he’ll slip to day 3, but can be an amazing value pick should the Bears choose to draft him.

MEASUREABLES AND PRODUCTION:

Measureables for days coming from Montese Overton’s streamlined physic. Did very well at the combine and pro day. Posting athletically élite numbers in nearly all area’s. Shows great explosion with his leaping numbers, good speed with his 40, and nice agility in his positional drills. You can see them here. Along with it came the production on the field. Tweener or not it appears Overton knows how to make big plays and fill up a stat sheet. You can see them here.

SCOUTING REPORT:

Positives: On the hoof he’s built straight out of a football lab. Well put together physic. Runs extremely well with good straight-line speed. His father is a former ECU basketball player so the pedigree is there. Plays with aggression and purpose. Wants to make big plays and does. Judging by his build you can see he’s a worker. Especially in the weight room. Conditioning is tip top. Should come in handy paying special teams and contributing on defense. Very good in coverage as he has a bunch of pass breakups. Great blitzer. Looks like he can be a valuable asset on nickel downs as a rover type.

Negatives: As mentioned previously he’s a tweener. Not big enough to fill against the run consistently as an inside linebacker, and not agile enough to play safety as a starter. Looks destined to be a passing down specialist. Does not appear to have the frame to put on much more weight without sacrificing his bread and butter athleticism. Plays well in coverage with a lot of pass break ups, but does not appear to have the ball skills to get interceptions as he had none at East Carolina in his entire career.
