PLAYER OVERVIEW:

Roger Lewis-Bowling Green– Roger Lewis is kind of a tweener prospect. He does not have ideal size to offset lack of his long speed. Lewis ran in the 4.5’s at the combine, and improved his time to 4.46 at his pro day along with some impressive leaping measureables which show immense explosion. Despite not having world class speed, or a huge catch radius he is a play-maker. He also has some pretty big time character concerns. He was implicated in two rape charges by the same woman that was eventually dropped. He also had some academic issues that may need monitoring, but if the Bears felt good about him resolving those past issues for good he can be a possible day 3 target for them.

MEASUREABLES AND PRODUCTION:

As mentioned above he kind of underwhelmed at the combine, but really made up for it at his pro day. Showed great ability with his on field drills, and ran some crisp routes giving teams hope he’s not as much of a project in his route running as first suspected. Here are his measureables at his pro day. As far as production he was straight up dominant in the MAC conference. Lewis had the 2nd highest yardage total in the entire nation with 1,544. You can read his bio along with all his accomplishments, and numbers here.

SCOUTING REPORT:

Positives: While not blessed with incredible size he is certainly big enough at 6′ 200 pounds or so. Makes big plays. Half of his TD’s in 2015 (8) were for at least 45 yards. Very shifty with top athleticism, and shiftiness to make short throws into long gains. Seems to be ideal in the slot on offense and might be a mainstay gunner on the Bears special teams unit should he be drafted and make the roster. Makes acrobatic catches including those of the one handed variety ala Odell Beckham Jr. Very good RAC production.

Negagtives: First there are his rape charges in 2012 when he was in high school. That has to be cleared by the teams investigators number one. He also has a lot of dropped passes despite having a bunch of spectacular catches on his tape. Does not have elite speed to get away from the pack. This despite having a ton of big plays downfield. Needs to get stronger (only 8 reps on the bench press) and work on his route running.
