S Deandre Houston-Carson, William & Mary, Sixth Round (185th):

Obviously, Pace feels that you can’t have enough defensive backs on the roster. With their sixth-round pick (185th) Chicago selected Deandre Houston-Carson out of William & Mary. Carson has a similar build (6-foot-1, 201 pounds) to fellow rookie DBs Bush and Hall, and has shown versatility in the secondary by starting at cornerback during his first three seasons at William & Mary, then transitioning to free safety during his senior year.

Pace must have seen Houston-Carson as a diamond in the rough, considering that he was still available in the sixth round after being projected to be drafted in rounds three or four according to cbssports.com. Houston-Carson’s ability to play multiple positions in the secondary must have been an attractive trait to the Bears, but it was probably his play on special teams that made them want to make this pick.

Houston-Carson recorded nine blocked kicks throughout his college career. He could be a huge asset to a Bears special teams unit that was one of the worst in the NFL in 2015.
