Deon Bush-Miami-S-Grade: (B-)
Deon Bush brings a physicality to the Bears safety position that has been lacking in recent seasons. This kid loves to hit. To quote, “I take big pride in being a big hitter,” said the Miami native. “That’s how I grew up playing the game. I’ve been trying to be the best hitter on my team since my days. That’s how I like to play the game of football. I like to play tough. I like to put fear in my opponents. That’s a big thing in my game.” So he definitely brings what Chicago Bears fans have craved for the longest. Bears fans love their hard hitting safeties with a long tradition of it in their teams history.
A history Bush is well familiar with, as well as familiarity with the city. “They produce guys like Brian Urlacher that we grew up watching, the tops at their positions” – and the city itself. “It’s a great city. The Windy City,” he said. The door is now open for him as his mentor Antrel Rolle was recently released.
He also had a feeling he would be a Bears before he was drafted on day 3. He apparently woke up yesterday and put on his Bears T-shirt that he got from the NFL combine. “I didn’t know what it was,” Bush said. “I put it in my bag. When I got to the hotel I looked and saw it was a Chicago Bears shirt.” It may be a great story if he indeed lives up to expectations and perhaps becomes one of the most beloved hard hitting safeties in the Bears long illustrious history.
He’s also a playmaker too. This from pro football focus; (Bush had positive grades in coverage and versus the run last season. He graded out even higher in 2014 when he was our 21st-highest graded safety among Power-5 schools despite playing only 568 snaps.) Looks like the Bears might have got them their version of Donte Witner.
