Draft Grades For The Bears Picks
Deiondre’ Hall-Northern Iowa-CB-Grade: (B-)
Comparisons of Charles “Peanut” Tillman were being thrown around and had WGN’s Adam Hoge proclaiming that by seasons end Deiondre’ Hall would be one of the Bears starting cornerbacks. I respectfully disagree with Hoge and feel he profiles best as a free ranging safety. Most of his interceptions were with him sitting back in coverage in deep zones. His nearly 4.7 40, long gangly legs, and lack of quick twitch prevent him from being the hip-flipping press man corner Fangio and secondary coach Ed Donatell require out of their corner-backs.
That said Hall is very productive in coverage, but more coming off his landmarks downhill watching the quarterbacks eyes, and snatching deflected passes out of the air with a very sticky pair of hands as he has 13 career interceptions, and led the Missouri valley Conference in interception in his junior and senior seasons.
His arms are freakishly long which helps him deflect a lot of passes and get his fair share of passes defended. Another reason for the likely switch to safety is he is a good tackler despite his lean frame. He will reach out and grab you with those vines for arms and wrestle you to the ground or submarine you with a shoulder to the thighs. If he puts on 15-20 more pounds of muscle over the years he could be a Kam Chancellor type with that range of his in the deep middle. Pro Football Focus says he graded out excellent against the run and slightly deficient as a coverage corner, no doubt due to his inability to press at the line of scrimmage due to him not having the recovery speed, as well as having difficulty flipping his hips quickly enough to turn and trail.
